Spacecraft Operations Engineer - Geostationery Satellite Systems

Darmstadt, Germany Thorn SDS is a part of the consortia currently providing spacecraft engineering services to EUMETSAT, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites.

We are searching for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer to complement our team in Germany.

This is a great opportunity to develop and grow your career in a multi-national environment under the guidance of industry experts. Candidates must be excellent communicators in English with a passion for the Space Industry.

The responsibilities of the service include the routine and special operations of operational METEOSAT spacecraft, continuous monitoring of spacecraft performance and the operations preparation of the next generation of geostationary spacecraft.

In addition to a relevant university degree, team members are expected to have expertise across one or more subsystems (METEOSAT, MTG or similar EO Payload would be ideal, thermal, power, TT&C), knowledge of python programming and able to work seamlessly together with the rest of the team to ensure a level of competence is always available.

Experience of Spacecraft Operations or Spacecraft Operations Preparation, preferably on Geostationary Earth Orbit (GOE) would be considered advantageous.

The role will develop with the phases of the missions, so we are looking for engineers who can demonstrate initiative and flexibility in a fast-paced environment. With experience of the full life cycle of spacecraft flight procedures, you must have carried out validation and testing, with relevant experience of low Earth orbit satellite operations.

You will have worked on anomaly investigations and have developed appropriate programming skills. Juggling tasks and making the most of the resources available to you will be essential in this role.  You will work with colleagues and partners, so you must be a team player with an ability to communicate complex ideas in a concise way.

At Thorn SDS we are always seeking to identify high quality individuals who are looking to start or further a career in the space industry. These are fantastic roles with huge potential, and we fully expect candidates to progress enormously, advancing into other engineering roles.
