We are seeking a confident and persuasive communicator with an eye for detail to take on responsibility for improving the delivery of services to our strategic partners and to secure new business within the Defence, Space and Security sectors.

Salary: Negotiable 

Hours: Full time 

Based: Alton, Hampshire, with some travel to customer sites

This is a management level position and an integral role within the Head Office team. This position is responsible for improving the delivery of services to our key strategic partners and for generating opportunities to secure profitable work for the company within the Defence, Space and Security sectors.

Responsibilities are varied, wide-ranging and are focussed on two areas; external service delivery and business development. The role also includes line management responsibilities of a small team of IT Engineers in training.

External service delivery:

  • Communicate professionally with strategic partners to understand their needs
  • Collaborate with internal staff to facilitate client need fulfilment
  • Produce and present monthly management reports
  • Monitor and contribute to the achievement of contract KPIs
  • Review, understand and apply contract requirements
  • Project manage the delivery of new contracts

Business Development:

  • Contact potential customers to establish rapport, build relationships and gauge needs
  • Contribute to product/service concept generation
  • Represent Thorn SDS at conferences, meetings and networking events
  • Develop quotes and proposals to secure new business
  • Contribute to writing tenders to secure new business
  • Gather market intelligence and maintain awareness of market trends and competitor activity

Line Management:

  • Deliver effective line management to the Head Office engineering team in training
  • Support the new starter induction and basic training process

The successful applicant will require a current driving licence to travel to client sites and, given the nature of the role, will be subject to national security vetting
