Overview of Role
Thorn SDS are a niche consultancy company based in Alton, Hampshire, who are committed to enabling technology organisations and professionals to thrive within the Space, Defence and Security sectors.
We currently require a number of Submarine Engineers to work on behalf of our Central Government client, based in Abbey Wood, Bristol and Barrow-in- Furness, Cumbria. (Requirement in both locations)
As a Submarine Engineer, you will lead a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of engineering function products as set out in the Engineering Management Plan by bringing together technological problem-solving and management abilities to oversee projects. To provide analyses and technical advice in relation to area of expertise and / or technical assurance of complex projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage the delivery of all engineering aspects in area of responsibility as defined in the assignment specification or objectives including managing the acquisition safety aspects.
- Provide expert advice and guidance in own technical area to solve complex technical problems and identify application risks.
- Manage the technical requirements for the acquisition lifecycle stage of one or more project, programme, service, or sy
- Monitor and implement any governance and assurance policies and procedures to ensure the ‘safe & professional’ status of the area is led.
- Lead on the development of requirements related to own area of specialism including acceptance plans, performance criteria and draft specifications.
- Interface with industry as the intelligent customer both in a scrutiny role and supporting the identification of application risks.
- Likely to hold Safety Responsibilities (SR)
Skills & Requirements
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer, or has demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Member of a relevant Professional Engineering / Science Institute or equivalent body.
- Relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification, or equivalent experience
- Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes.
- Wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience in own specialism with knowledge and application of Systems Engineering approaches.
